Using ChatGPT for Your Resume
Step 1: Ask ChatGPT for Guidance
Use a prompt:
“Write bulletpoints for a resume for someone with experience as a certified medical assistant at a primary care clinic with one year of experience . Include skills like taking vital signs, rooming patients, and phlebotomy. Start with verbs. End each with a period. Make them present tense.”
Use these prompts to modify the results.
“Make this sound better.”
“Make this sound more informal.”
“Make this shorter.”
“Make this past tense.”
“Make this present tense.”
Put in your job duties.
Example: “Greeting and checking in patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones and directing calls, verifying insurance and collecting co-pays”
“Make these bullet points for a resume.”
Step 2: Check the Response
Always review what ChatGPT gives you.
Fix anything that doesn’t sound right or isn’t true. DO NOT put things on your resume that you did not do.
If you’re not currently working at a job, make the description PAST TENSE.
If you are currently working at the job, make the description PRESENT TENSE.
Tips and Practice
Always double-check your resume before using it.
Use ChatGPT as a helper, not the final writer.
Try different prompts to get better results.
Take out anything you did not do, anything you are unsure about, or anything you do not understand the job duties and cannot repeat.
Step 3: Add the Information to Your Resume
Copy and paste the bullet points into your resume.
